: Festive Swim - Christmas Day
On Friday 25th December hundreds of supporters of the St. Elizabeth Hospice will be taking part in the annual Christmas Day Dip at Felixstowe.
Last year around 100 people took up the challenge to raise money for the Hospice. Many of them found it a good way of starting Christmas Day, which can be a difficult time for someone who is grieving. They are hoping to double that number this year.
St Elizabeth Hospice's community fundraiser Patsy Johnson said: "Christmas is a lovely time of year to give something back and remember a loved one."Why not come along first thing, do your dip with friends and family watching, then go home to open your presents and enjoy your Christmas dinner. What a great way to start the festivities."
Registration takes place from 8.30am at the beach front opposite Manning's Amusement Park, Sea Road, Felixstowe. The location has moved from Cobbolds Point this year due to low tide. At 9.30am when the horn sounds, everyone will enter the cold sea. Mulled wine and minced pies will be served afterwards.
The registration fee is £5 per person and participants are asked to raise sponsorship.
Last year the event raised over £19,000 for the Hospice, which is based in Foxhall Road, Ipswich, and cares for patients from across East Suffolk, and it is hoped the 2009 event, which will round off the Hospice's 20th anniversary year, will top that amount.
