Peter Kellett: Pronounced 'Grunyard' . A wild and beautiful bay in Wester Ross, a few miles North of Aultbea on the A832.
Four sections of a gently shelving beach separated at high tide by rocky promontories, which are negotiable even at highest water. The very best time to swim is a rising tide on a hot day, so that the water picks up heat advancing over the heated sand.
Apart from the section immediately by the carpark, the remaining beach rarely has more than a handful of people on it and is often used by nude bathers. The northern end has dunes which offer a lee on a windy day.
There are no facilities though, so take plenty to drink.
