Kate Rew: Not far from Salisbury Plain and Stonehenge, Figheldean is a small round pool , circled by trees and bucolic meadows, that's been a popular local swim spot for years.
Peter Ratcliff: Situated just behind the Church with parking at the end of the lane off the main road through the village.
Great fun swimming against the current in this "pool within a river" like an "endless pool" but without the chlorine! Then stop and get pulled downstream a few yards to swim back up and into the current again!
I am not sure why Kate has called this the River Hull when it is the River Avon.
Nothing dramatic but I cut my knee very slightly on a rock in the shallow part on the downstream side so take it steady!
Heather Bamber: This spot has become more and more busy in recent years, and completely over-run whenever the sun shines. There are noisy cars speeding down the short dead-end lane leading to the river, and the road becomes completely clogged with cars. The small area beside the river is packed with noisy lads, barbecues, loud radios etc, and overwhelmed with rubbish and dog mess. The river is very dangerous, with complex currents when the water is high, and a gravely river bed. In fact there have been several serious accidents here over the years. AVOID!!
