Robbie Pennington: I feel it's a safe place for swimming alone as most of the pool is shallow enough to be within depth for me (6'2"). There is a deepish scoop where the Floors Castle wall juts into the river, youngsters sometimes use that bit for jumping. The bottom is level and uncomplicated and the current gentle.
A big attraction for me is it's close enough to work for a lunchtime swim.
There is a weir downstream so be careful although the water is usually pretty shallow�near to it.
Robbie Pennington: This pool, known as 'The Cobby', was the base for the Kelso Swimming Club before the local pool was built, which attests to its safety.
There have been drownings in the vicinity, so the local authority is a bit twitchy and has put up some 'No Swimming' signs nearer the cauld. Ironically the water where the signs are tends to be very shallow at the time of year when swimming is attractive - knee-deep!
