Bac Lava: Yorkshire's only natural lake, in the middle of scenic countryside, Semer water is hidden amongst the picturesque countryside of Richmondshire. Shelving out gradually from the large pebbly beach (that doubles as the car park), the bottom of the lake is standing depth for almost half of its length.
Used by Kudu Bikes Triathlon club who organize ad hoc swim sessions there over the summer. Ideal for beginners - at average height you can stand up, making it safe, but if it rains temperature drops rapidly. When boats are present it is recommended that swimmers try to stay within 50 yards of the bank.
It is heavily silted by the brooks that feed it, and is often frequented by boats. Swimming the lake's length marvelling at the scenery as you go will make anyone's day. The lake is owned by a private landowner, so parking is not free (2.00). Walk 400 yards to the right as you exit the car park and visit the farmhouse on the left.
Pat Maycroft: Beautiful lake in a secluded/sheltered spot. Popular with wind surfers in the summer!
Chris Grey: Not been in years and years, but I can always remember that on hot days the water was almost warm.
