Bac Lava: An adventurous sea swim from Stair Hole to Lulworth Cove on the beautiful Jurassic coast, recommended by Dicky Saunders. Start the swim via the steep/rocky access at Stair Hole (signposted or ask for directions just 5 mins on foot from Lulworth Cove car park).
Stair Hole is popular for snorkelling and diving as there are a couple of small caves and arches leading out into the open sea. At slack tide, head into the open sea and turn left (!) round the head, and then swim into the sheltered cove to the beach. Takes 20-40 mins and then of course you will have to walk back (5 mins) to collect your stuff! Discky says loves this swim, saying it's -Great fun and I always like the strange looks you get from the assembled tourists ('Where did he come from?') In good weather it's clear, mostly calm water although it can be a bit murky/seaweedy in Cove itself. Stay close in and watch out for the speed boat that gives pleasure rides from the cove - a bright swim hat is a must. You'll need a wetsuit (or shorty wetsuit) in spring and autumn, but can do it in a swimsuit in summer.
