Michael Elsmere: While visiting some friends in Cornwall we visited Trebarwith Strand near Tintagel. The beach is at the bottom of a deep picturesque valley with the spectacular Gull Rock just off-shore. It was a warm sunny day and the sea was flatter than I have ever seen it off the Cornish coast and had that deep aquamarine colour which can't be resisted.
To the horror of our friends, my sister and I dashed in. The water was clear and warm (well the top metre or so was) and we splashed around for a while and emerged 15 minutes later exhilerated but not cold.
I am told the sunsets here can be fabulous.
The beach is completely covered at high tide and there is a life guard service.
