Wildswim: The village of Tollesbury sits on a jut of land to the south of the Blackwater Estuary. Swim in a grey-green expanse of water, overlooked by rickety sail lofts, peeling hulls and tilting masts.
Filled by the tide and controlled by a sluice gate, Woodup pool is flushed out and replenished every ten days or so. It has been renovated and refreshments are available at the nearby Tollesbury Cruising Club, and there's no charge.
There are no life-guards here, so small children should be supervised.
