The land of the summer people is full of quarry lakes and slow greenish rivers, with some great community spots for meeting friends, swimming with children, and having a picnic. Here are some of my current favourite locations for family swimming (some slightly over the borders into Devon, Dorset or Wiltshire).

Please tread lightly if you visit them . Respect the land owners generosity in allowing swimming - don't block their gates with cars, do pick up other people's rubbish as well as your own, and maybe thank them if you see them? The sites can look like the remnants of a big party after a hot day, day after day after day, with scorched and trampled grass, rubbish, left behind socks and pants.. and it falls to the people who own the land (rather than the swimmers who swam) to put it all right every morning. Thank you!
