Small, unintimidating lakes, with accessible shorelines for wild swimmers, Buttermere and Crummock are ideal lakes to begin an outdoor swimming career, and can be linked by a walk either across the short grassy strip that separates them, or a diversion around Scale Force, the highest falls in England.

Swimmers will love the relative quietness of these lakes which don't allow motor boats.
