Description by Fiona Ramsay who added this swim
The Esplanade in Greenock (Postcode PA16 7SE) is a good place for sea swimming. This sea swimming takes place from the club house of the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club (RWSABC). Swimming takes place on Thursday and Friday evenings and we enter the water around 6:30pm. The swimming season is from around mid-April till early September. There are changing rooms with toilets and showers at RWSABC. Please feel free to come down for a single swim at any time but if you wish to use the club facilities for changing you will need to consider becoming a member. Each month we have an "Open Swim" where we encourage anyone to come along to try (or try again) the swim at RWSABC. After the swim you can go to the bar at the club for hot, cold and alcoholic drinks.
The normal swim is to go in at the beach and swim east along The Esplanade. There are 2 slips to the east of RWSABC that can allow safe egress for the water at a distance of around 400m and 1000m from the beach where the swimming starts.
In some cases we will turn the other direction and go to the west towards the Battery Park.
You can gain access to the beach from The Esplanade beside the RWSABC club house. There is a reasonable amount of parking there.
For further information visit the RWSABC web site at www.rwsabc.co.uk or email email@example.com

This is a crowd-sourced map. Abilities vary, and conditions change. Always assess risks for yourself before getting in.
At The Esplanade in Greenock the Clyde River is tidal. It is suggested that you stay within 70m of the shore. Do not go past Johnson Street to the East of RWSABC. This is to avoid boats of the Clyde Pilot service.
