Parking is available at the NT car park on Hither Way (£2 for non-NT members (2013)).

The river can be accessed by walking down the road past the river and turning left into the field adjoining the river via a stile in the wall.

Cows are often in the field, but don't tend to cause any problems.

You will notice a large beach area, which is used by the cows. If you carry on upstream, past the small rapids, you will notice a slight drop and a smaller beach area. There is a single swing rope fixed to a tree on the East side and this is the ideal place to swim.

Some areas are deeper than 2m metres, but there are plenty of shallow areas on the West side of the river - that closest to the Abbey - if you want to stand or need to take a break.

The smaller beach now has barbed wire across but the larger beach area was a good place for a dip.

I was told that big groups of teens are causing a problem down there this summer but my time there was peaceful.

The NT car park is now £4, cash needed.

Turn right out of the car park and along the road. Be careful crossing the bridge as its a blind spot for cars.
