Description by Kate Rew on behalf of Outdoor Swimming Society
The very brave will have the chance to take a dip in Sandford Parks Lido’s chilly waters in Cheltenham on Christmas Day 2019, for the freezing cold festive event that has been going for more than 50 years.
There is no charge to enter this event but there will be collection buckets at the entrance raising money for Sandford Lido Ltd, the charitable trust that operates the lido. Spectators are welcome.
The swim will take place promptly at 11am and you will need to be at the lido gates from 10.30am to sign a disclaimer form (if not signed up online). The water will be extremely cold and this is an adults only event (age 17+). The event will finish at 11.30am. Roger Deakin praised this lido’s pool and its fountains. Joe Minihane came on a hot summer’s afternoon 18 years after Roger for Floating: A Life Regained
Description by Emma Pusill who added this swim
One of the grand old ladies of the lido world - huge 50m pool and separate children's pool in a park like setting.
Heated during the summer season, occasional opening for events in winter. The Christmas Day Swim draws swimmers to this Lido lovers have it that bit harsher than sea swimmers over Christmas, as the temperature of fresh water drops faster than salt.
